The Angola City Council says new strip clubs within city limits may only open in areas zoned as "industrial." The new rule was passed during Monday's council meeting in response to public outcry over a new club that is currently under construction.

Earlier this year, the former "Slider's Restaurant" on Wendell Jacob Ave. in Angola was bought by a Fort Wayne developer who plans to turn it into a strip club.

At Monday's city council meeting, members reviewed cases and studies from other cities around the country that they say shows the negative effects of strip clubs to residential and commercial areas.

Although Monday's decision does not affect the zoning of the club that is currently in construction, a group of residents said they would petition the city's alcohol licensing board.
