A violent armed robbery at a New Haven gun store escalated into a high-speed  police chase that ended with a serious crash. Three of the gunmen were arrested but one of the robbers remains at-large.

Two men robbed Shooters gun store  located in the 600 block of Lincoln Highway in New Haven just after 11 this morning stealing several guns, pistol-whipping a customer  and kicking the owner of the shop in the ribs. All of this happened while  two men waited in a getaway car outside of the store.

"One victim inside provided a description of the vehicle it was a dark colored Chevy impala," said Scott Adam of the New Haven Police Department.

Police say the suspects fired a gun-shot but did not hit anybody.  The four men fled from the store and a police chase ensued.

"In this manner we haven't seen anything like that out here--he's been burglarized during late night hours over the years but never a robbery with shots fired," said Adam.

The chase from the gun store ended at the intersection of McKinney Ave. and Anthony Blvd. where the suspects crashed and then fled from a blue Chevy Impala.

"Two suspects were taken into custody there at the scene two fled on foot, one was apprehended by a Fort Wayne detective and the other is being tracked by two canines," said Adam.

The blue impala hit a truck injuring one of the suspects and the driver of the truck was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"'I'm just kind of dumbfounded that it ended like that," said Ali Reed, a witness.

With one suspect on the loose who police believed to be armed, about a half dozen Fort Wayne community schools were put on lock down for a few hours during the afternoon.

"I'm just afraid that he could be anywhere around here anybody could get shot from this point on," said Reed.

Police say they did to find a gun in a nearby yard.  The customer assaulted during the robbery is expected to recover.
