Wawasee High School students and parents are coming to grips with the death of 15-year old Kalee Skaggs.

She died  when she was hit by a train near Cromwell last week.

Tonight a suicide prevention meeting was held at Wawasee high school.

"I think some students feel angry about the death and they struggle to understand why someone would do such a thing," said Christina Bolden, assistant director of the Bowen Center

Kalee Skagss, a freshman at Wawasee high school  died last week after she was hit by a train.  A grieving community came together tonight to discuss why suicide happens and how to prevent it.   Wawasee high school principal Don Harman says taking an active role in your Childs life is the first step.

"I think first and foremost to be honest with your child and having honest communications with your child is so important," said Harman.

Last night Garrett Middle School held a similar meeting with parents discussing a rumored suicide pact.  Christina Bolden says it's not an issue of suicide being more prevalent rather suicide is often misperceived.

"Suicide is something that is largely unknown, every 16 seconds there is a suicide," said Bolden.

Bolden says that suicide is overwhelming for teenagers to comprehend, which is why talking openly can help parents guide their child through this emotional time.

" A lot of time students are uncertain as to how to process those emotions when you lose someone that's close especially at a young age it's difficult to know what to do with those overwhelming emotions," said Bolden.
