The Allen County FamilyWize partnership offers prescription drugs at discounted prices.  The program has saved local residents over a million dollars in prescription costs since 2008.

A recent study shows that the program is saving people a whole lot more in potential medical expense.

The  United Way of Allen County and Allen County Board of Commissioners head up this program.  They say no matter how big or small the discount is, the program is saving people from racking up unnecessary medical bills.

"If you don't take those medications chances are you are going to wind up having much more severe problems," said Mike Green, the public information officer for the Allen County Commissioners.

Green says that local pharmacies have saved people in the area more than $1 million in everyday prescription costs since the program started in 2008.

A recent study shows providing more affordable access to drugs is improving peoples' health and keeping them out of the hospital. Saving Allen County residents millions of dollars.

"Besides saving over a million dollars on prescription drugs people were able to save $2.8 million on potential procedures," said Green

Todd Stephenson the president and CEO of the Allen County  United Way says the discount card gives people the flexibility to cover other expenses while getting the medical attention they need.

"As they are able to save money with their prescription drugs its money that can be used else where. For things like rent, food, utilities and so forth," said Stephenson.
