MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State senior guard Jauwan Scaife was named Monday as the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week for men's basketball.

It marks the second such award in the past three weeks for Scaife, a MAC Player of the Year candidate who now ranks second in the league at 20.0 points per game in conference play.

Scaife exploded last week to help Ball State to a pair of key victories in the fight for conference tournament seeding. He poured in a career-high 34 points Wednesday against Central Michigan and then went for 28 on the road Saturday at Toledo.

Scaife blistered the nets, shooting 57.1 percent from the floor (16 for 28), 55 percent from 3-point range (11 for 20) and 82.6 percent from the free throw line (19 for 23) for the week. He also averaged 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in the two wins.

His 34 points Wednesday against Central Michigan are the most by any player in the MAC this season. The local product from Muncie Central High School is averaging nearly 26 points per game over the past six contests, helping Ball State to a 5-1 record during that stretch.

The Cardinals return to action Tuesday with a 7 p.m. road game at MAC West leader Western Michigan. Ball State has secured no worse than the No. 8 seed in the conference tournament and is still in the mix for a first-round bye with a strong finish.

Scaife's honor marks the sixth time this season a Cardinal has earned MAC West Player of the Week honors. Jesse Berry and Majok Majok have also been recognized twice each.
