Police shot and killed an armed man  his morning on Fort Wayne's North-East side.

It all started as an armed robbery at the CVS on the 2800 block of State Boulevard at 2:30 this morning. The robber then made his way on foot to the Baldwin Creek apartments located at 2020 Hobson. Police were with the robber every step of the way.

"Two officers pursued this individual into an apartment building they encounter the armed individual and shots were fired at that time," said Raquel Foster with the Fort Wayne Police Department.

The gunman died and has been identified as Stephen O'Neal Wattley II

"We heard three gun shots the first one went pop, and then you hear pop pop, said Donovan Harvey.

Harvey lives in the apartment directly below where police opened fire and says his main concern was the safety of his family.

"I mean it was right above me so I was more or less scared that it might come through because I have kids here," said Harvey.

Fort Wayne and Indiana State Police are conducting separate investigations as the two officers involved are on paid administrative leave.

"What people may not realize is that this is considered a criminal investigation as well and the officer is responsible for every projectile he shootings from his firearm," said Foster.
