The final stretch of the US 24 road project is set to open Wednesday morning -- something that's sure to bring a sigh of relief for many local residents and business owners.

The $170 million project between the Ohio border and I-469 will create a four-lane highway that stretches between New Haven and Toledo.

"As you can see all the semis and the noise... it's quite chaotic," said Paul Bruce as he stood on his front lawn yesterday.

Bruce lives on Old US 24 and says he was told in 1997 when he bought the home that the road project would be done in 2003. Fifteen years later, he's relieved it's over.

"In the mornings if i"m trying to go to work sometimes I sit there for five or ten minutes waiting to get out of my driveway in this traffic."
