The wife of a Washington Township fireman who died on duty says she is amazed by the outpouring of support she has received in the wake of her husband's death.

Janet Haudenschild spoke to reporters Wednesday for the first time since her husband Mark Haudenschild was killed.

She said when Mark first decided to join the volunteer department five years ago, she was apprehensive, but happy that he was doing something he loved.

"I give him credit because he did things that a lot of people didn't have the courage to do," she said "They all have courage to do this and they all deserve a lot of credit for it. They take a risk every day for us."

A viewing is scheduled for Friday at McComb and Sons Funeral Home from 2pm to 8pm -- 1320 E. Dupont Rd in Fort Wayne.

The funeral will be held on Saturday from 9am to noon at the chapel at 2505 W. Hamilton Rd South in Fort Wayne.
