Hundreds of people in need were treated to a thanksgiving meal at the Fort Wayne Rescue mission.  Guests enjoyed favorites like turkey, mashed potatoes and corn in the comfort of family and friends.

You know we may be here in a homeless shelter but we've got a beautiful meal a beautiful roof and I think its always important to thank god," said Kenny Holloway.

Kenny Holloway has a positive outlook this Thanksgiving as he remembers a much darker time in his life.

"I wasn't eating properly I was begging for money on the street its gong to make me cry it's just a big blessing," said Holloway.

Reverend Donovan Coley, CEO of the Rescue mission, says nearly 3,500 meals were prepared by over 100 volunteers from all over the state and even Ohio.

The rescue mission depends on our volunteers to fulfill our responsibility of caring for the needs of the poor," said Coley.

"I think it's important to see another area of life that you that you normally don't see," said David Jones, a volunteer.

David Jones has served meals at the mission rescue during thanksgiving for 25 years  and says it's important to step away from your daily life and give back.

You live your life in a different style and it's nice to come down to help someone who might be needing some assistance or help," said Jones.

I'm grateful to have somewhere to eat and have food so we don't have to starve me and my wife," said John Schuller.

Always be grateful for the food that you eat because we do not get this every year," said Holloway.

The people at the meal say eating a Thanksgiving meal brings them hope during this holiday season.
