20% of Indiana Veterans Unemployed

20% of post 9/11 Veterans in Indiana are unemployed according to the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation. State Representative Ben Smaltz (R-Auburn) is working with a coalition of state leaders to address the high unemployment rate of Hoosier veterans.
Two weeks ago, House bill 1002, the Indiana Career Council (ICC) was amended to incorporate veterans. HB 1002 is designed to improve coordination, communication, and vision for Indiana's workforce training and career preparation systems. The ICC is a panel that will bring principal stakeholders in the state's workforce development efforts to a single table, with the Governor as it's chair.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, veteran service members have a national unemployment rate of 10%. Indiana's veteran unemployment rate doubles the national average.
