A two-year-old girl died in her Marion home -- police say under the care of her mother's boyfriend.

Around nine o'clock Wednesday night, Marion Police were called to a trailer part on the 1500 block of South Miller Street. They say the toddler had suffered what appeared to be scald wounds to her face, chest and back.

The girl's mother told police that she had left her daughter in the care of her boyfriend for the day. When she returned home, she found the girl dead inside.

A neighbor who did not want to be identified told WFFT that the mother ran over to her house with the child to ask for help. "She was screaming 'the baby's not breathing, the baby's not breathing,'" she said.

Early Thursday morning, police arrested the woman's boyfriend, Donald Riddle, 27, of Marion. Riddle has been charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death. Police say they have not yet issued homicide charges because it's not yet clear whether the injuries were intentional.
