Indiana's new governor says job growth is at the top of his list. Gov. Mike Pence met with local business leaders for a roundtable discussion at Roanoke's Vera Bradley headquarters on Wednesday.

Leaders from many of the area's largest corporations discussed ways state government can foster job growth in Northeast Indiana.

Since the height of the recession, Indiana has made significant strides in job growth and unemployment, but by the numbers, it still has a long way to go.

According to the most recent unemployment numbers taken in December, 8.2 percent of Hoosiers are unemployed. The national unemployment rate is 7.6 percent.

Pence says the key, in part, to lowering Indiana's rate is a combination of fostering a better-educated workforce, and making the tax climate more attractive. His administration is recommending a ten percent decrease in Indiana's income tax.
