Gas prices jumped ten cents Wednesday, and that has some looking for cheaper ways to get around. One man in Indianapolis built his own fully electric car. FOX Fort Wayne went out to ask Fort Wayne residents if they think electric cars are way to go. Patrick Roth is an Indiana man who is not sweating gas prices, because his car runs strictly on electricity. Patrick Roth says “I have taken out all of the components to the internal combustion engine, and replaced it with a big electric motor, and added a bunch of batteries, and turned it into a one-hundred percent electric vehicle.” Roth has converted his Fort Escort into a fully electric car, and says it runs just as well as a normal car. Roth says “It works great, actually. Ive tasted it on the highway up to 70 miles per hour.” If you are wondering if his invention in legal...Roth says his car complies with all laws. “I checked with the insurance company, I checked with the B.M.V., and it’s absolutely legal. Roth says all his work is paying off. “In the equivalent, it works out to what it would cost me if I were paying 75 cents a gallon at the pump.” We asked Fort Wayne residents if they would want a fully electric car? Fort Wayne Resident, “Absolutely” Fort Wayne Resident, “It would be perfect for rides around town, but how long will it hold up and how safe will it be?” Fort Wayne Resident, “I personally would. I would want something reliable and an infrastructure you could reply on as you travel. Roth encourages others to build their own electric cars. He says he did not have an engineering degree, or electrical training. It took him 10 weeks to build the car and cost him about thirteen-thousand dollars.
