Lifetime Sports Academy held their opening day of summer camp today. The nationally recognized camp has been entertaining kids for twelve years. The program is completely free and will keep your kids busy, perfecting their game of golf, tennis, or swimming. The camp is offered to kids between 8 and 18. Campers are taught by certified trainers and councilors. Camp Director, Tommy Hogan says “We start at 9 am in the morning, and we stop at 3. Our program is open for 7 weeks. The last week in July the program is over.” And this camp won’t put a dent in your pocket book. Parks and Recreation Director, Al Moll says “It’s a great program. It’s free and encourages parents to bring their kids out here. In today’s tuff economic times it provides an outlet to kids.” Not only is it free, but kids have the chance to get free golf clubs and tennis racquets! Moll says “They have to earn them! But basically our program is set up so if you participate and pass some basic tests, pay attention to what is going on, and get help when needed, at the end of the 7 week program we hand out free golf clubs or tennis racquets.” And parents you don’t even need to worry about packing your child’s lunch. Hogan says “Fort Wayne Community Schools provide lunch; they have a grant they have been using to do this for the last 12 years. They come on sight and you don’t have to be in the program to get lunch.” The camp is primarily funded through private donations, and they money will continue to support the camp as long as there is a demand. Lifetime Sports Academy is hoping to have 1,800 campers this year.
