Memorial Stadium Demolition

It’s the second day of demolition and Fox Fort Wayne is told that everything is on schedule. Currently stadium contractors are wrapping-up removing the final items that were sold in the auction. The auction went extremely well. The Coliseum beat their goal of $200,000 dollars, by making $210,000. Coliseum General Manager, Randy Brown says “What the contractors are doing now is getting the balance of the dry wall and miscellaneous items out, so once that is removed they will come in and dismantle the concrete units. Coliseum official’s goal is to make the tear down as eco-friendly as possible. Brown says “Our hope is to recycle as much as possible, keeping as much of this stadium out of the landfill, and turning it into a useful purpose for the future.” Through the demolition more will be carried away than brought into the sight. Concrete and stone will be ground down into smaller pieces and shipped off to other nearby construction sights. Brown says “Beginning next week you will see the grand stand being dismantled piece by piece. They will bring it out into the outfield area, grind it down and contractors are talking about doing the trucking in the overnight hours so it does not interferer with traffic. “ It wont be too long before the stadium is flattened and a new parking lot takes its place. Brown says “We hope to have everything complete on or before September 1st; Which would put us in great shape for the Johnny Apple Seed Festival.” And you might remember that goose canon that was up for auction...well that sold as well! Brown says “A gentleman who has a pond and a goose problem of his own thought it was too good to pass up. So hopefully its back in service today.” Coliseum officials ask that you stay away from the stadium while it’s under construction. Its a hard hat area and you must have credentials to be on sight. So the safest place to get views of the demolition is from the Coliseum or Coliseum Blvd.
