The economy may be slowing down many businesses, but for
“Yeah, I’ve been surprised” says Lorrie Wittgenfeld, store manager of USA Fireworks on Coliseum Boulevard.
The store has nearly quadrupled their sales compared to this time last year.
“Last year we did probably fifty to one-hundred dollars a day and this year we're doing two-hundred to six-hundred dollars a day in sales” adds Wittgenfeld.
But it’s not too hard to see the reasoning behind the sales. Between the bright signs and crazy dancers on the side of the road, along with the incredible deals, shoppers seem to be hooked.
Shopper Eugene Burchett says that “the fireworks signs were very catchy” and drew his attention.
Shopper Jasper Smith also said that he “saw a sign that said ‘Buy 1 Get 5 Free’ and decided to check it out.
The store sells everything from fireworks to sparklers and poppers to firecrackers.
Wittgenfeld isn't sure of the reason behind the sales jump, but says regardless of the economy people just always seem to be interested in buying fireworks.
“I compare it to Christmas. People spend money on Christmas even when the economy's bad” Wittgenfeld says.
And this is just the beginning for the store. It will continue to remain open until at least July 7th or 8th. Even bigger sales are still likely to come.
“It just makes us more excited about what's to come” adds Wittgenfeld.
