FOX Fort Wayne has learned Fort Wayne’s campaign for its third All-America City Award was partly based on an Internet myth.

The city referred repeatedly to a “Hall of Fame” Fort Wayne would enter if it won a third award.  But Michael McGrath of the National Civic League (which bestows the award) says a “Hall of Fame” does not exist.

The myth about the existence of the “Hall of Fame” has been passed around the country and gained traction on Wikipedia.

FOX Fort Wayne talked with city officials about the misinformation.  Also, an information specialist at IPFW talked about ways to avoid Internet urban legends.
