The study was done on the frequency of car accidents in the city. Fort Wayne ranks 6th. The study included 200 of the largest cities in the U.S. So what makes Fort Waynes roadway so safe? Fort Wayne’s Public Information Officer says it’s a combination of things that won the city its ranking. “I think non-aggressive driving; the city is well engineered in terms of its streets. We have great roadways to drive on and all those coupled together there are less accidents than you would normally expect.” The study says on average, a Fort Wayne resident will get in an accident about every twlve years. This rang true for many we spoke with today. Donna Michell, a Fort Wayne resident says “I’ve had a few accidents but nothing for the last 15 years.” A spokesman for Allstate says Fort Wayne’s ranking is something to brag about. “Being in the top 10, I think they should be proud of that accomplishment.” The study analyses four consecutive years. This helps account for years where weather or construction might have had a negative impact on the number of accidents. The safest city was Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Indianapolis ranked 46th.
