From antique cars to drag cars and show cars to race cars, life is a road for many New Haven folks, and theyre always ready to get behind the wheel. Tony Philebaum admits that his car isnt the prettiest looking thing, but regardless, he cant bear to part with it “I cant get rid of it, just cant get rid of it because of sentimental value of it being my first car” says Philebaum. Around 350 other car enthusiasts have similar stories. Steve Reader collects many cars but is particularly attached to the one that used to belong to his mom. “Shes been past away now for about five years, so this will be the last one in the collection to go” says Reader. From the young, to the young at heart, the 12th Annual New Haven Car Cruise brings out the car enthusiast in everyone. Trinity Hobkirk is only 9 years old, but already knows what car she wants when she gets older. Karen Martin says that cars are woven into families. They are “something you can pass down to younger generations.” The event was completely free, but donations were accepted. All of the money raised will go to the New Haven Fire Department. The NHFD will use that money to buy smoke detectors, then give those smoke detectors to residents for free.
