This morning I.P.F.W.’s executive council gave the green light on a 5% tuition increase for the upcoming school year. Ivy Tech is proposing a 5% increase that is expected to easily pass. Bill Mckinney, the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, at I.P.F.W. says “On my side of things, my job in academic affairs is to make sure that money goes directly into the classrooms and labs and studios.” Ivy Tech is looking to pass the same increase. They say the State budget wasn’t quite enough to run their cost of operations. Russell Baker, Interim Chancellor of Ivy Tech North East, explains where the money will be spent. “Two places, new full time faculty and new students affairs staff. People to work with our students directly in the intake process.” Students on both campuses say they are not happy about the increase. Ivy Tech’s officials say under their proposal, a student taking 15 hours would pay an additional $160 a year. A student at I.P.F.W will pay an additional $231 a year. The University of Saint Francis has also passed a five percent tuition increase. They were unable to comment on the reason for the increase, or where the money will be spent. Ivy Tech will hold a public hearing on July sixth in Indianapolis. At that public hearing they will vote on the proposed tuition increase.
