Meth addicts often use abandoned or empty homes to store and to cook meth. Toxic chemicals in homes can impact your property values and hold invisible dangers that can turn deadly. Indiana is among the top five meth-producing states in the country. Chemicals used to make meth seep into walls and carpet. It typically costs thousands of dollars to clean. If left in a home, the chemicals can cause cancer. Many people rent homes unaware the cancer-causing agents are still in the walls. Property owners are also at risk. They can rent to someone who uses meth. The damage meth-users leave behind can often cost more money to fix, than the house is worth.
