State of Restaurants

Some local restaurants are ramping up their efforts to get people eating out again. This, as the economic recession has forced many diners to cut back.

Liberty Diner in Fort Wayne is offering gift certificates and coupons to attract more customers.  The restaurant’s owner says those incentives are helping.

Nationally, Arby’s is reacting to the recession by giving out free food. Each Wednesday this summer, customers can pick up a “Freebie.”  An Arby’s executive says the reception to the program in Northeast Indiana has been strong.

But not all restaurants are responding to the recession in the same way. One local owner says he has cut portion sizes and uses cheaper materials to save money.
