Tin Caps Host Blood Drive

The Tin Caps and American Red Cross were looking to knock this blood drive out of the park. Their goal was to raise 300 pints of blood. It was a revolving door today at the Tin Caps blood drive. The wait to donate was an hour and a half at one point in the day. People didn’t let that deter them. Michael Limmer, the Tin Caps V.P. of Marketing, says “We figured if we were going to have a blood drive we might as well shoot for the record of 300, which is a baseball term that people say if you’re a good hitter, your going to hit 300.” American Red Cross officials say they tend to see a shortfall in donations during the summer months. Sharyn Whitman, CEO of the Indiana & Ohio American Red Cross, says “We have a lot of donations for high school and college students, and since they are not in session in the summer, to some extent those donations drop off.” And there was a little incentive for all donors today. Whitman says “They are receiving vouchers that can be exchanged for a ticket at the game. There is a red cross t-shirt, and they are entered into a weekly prize drawing for a $100 Meijer gift card.” Some people, like Christian Buls, say they would have donated even if tickets were not part of the deal. Buls says “I do it because I want to save lives. I don’t feel like any life should go to waste.” Blood donation banks were open throughout the Tin Caps game tonight. Anyone attending the game was able to donate.
