"We want to end sexual violence against women" says Denice Beights of the Fort Wayne Women's Bureau.
The Fort Wayne Women's Bureau held their first ever 'Women's Night of Shoes' tonight.
“For so long, sexualized violence against women has been dubbed a women's issue” adds Beights. One in six women is a victim of sexual assault.
“This epidemic of sexualized violence is a community issue” says Beights. And women are the only ones getting involved.
"It's obviously a topic not a lot of people like discussing” says Karl Jackson.
Jackson knows how it feels to walk in women's shoes….literally. He took part in the ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’ event last year.
“It took a little practice. I had to do a few practice laps around the neighborhood” says Jackson.
He, along with nearly 350 other men, strapped on their stilettos to raise awareness of violence against women.
"There are guys who are just wild about being a part of the event” says Beights. The ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’ event will be held September 12 at 10am. A pledge of 30-dollars is required.
