Real-World Construction Experience

Construction students from a local career center are getting some on-the-job experience.

Students have been working since June. They're paid $10 per hour and usually work full days, said Chris Roberts, instructor at Anthis Career Center.
Mayor Tom Henry said students benefit by gaining career experience while the city is able to reduce the number of backlogged projects.
Roberts said the tough economy has made it difficult to place students in construction apprenticeships. Participating students say they’re grateful for the work experience and opportunity to learn outside the classroom.
