Last year 9 people, in Indiana, died on Labor Day weekend. Thats the most deaths on a holiday, last year. This year the entire Midwest is cracking down on drunk driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says "No matter what you drive, a passenger car, pickup truck, sport utility vehicle or motorcycle, if we catch you driving impaired, we will arrest you." Sgt. Ron Galaviz, with the Indiana State Police, says “We dont want to loose any single person on our highways.” Last year an additional 150 officers were put on patrol in Indiana. Galaviz says “Our enforcement efforts here at the Fort Wayne post and state wide are not about giving tickets, theyre about saving lives. New data shows an increase of almost 30% in the number of women being arrested for drunk driving. On the flip side the number of men driving impaired has fallen almost 8%. State Police ask all drivers to, get plenty of sleep, dont drink or text and drive, and always buckle up. Police encourage you to call 911 if you see aggressive or illegal driving.
