In the past few years ‘Fort Wayne baseball’ and ‘playoff season’ werent words ever used together.
But fast forward to 2009...
The TinCaps opened with a ten game winning streak.
They saw 50 wins at Parkview Field.
A record 378,000 fans tore through the turnstiles.
And the icing on the cake: they now have the best record in minor league baseball.
“Its a special thing to have 95 wins in the minor leagues” says TinCaps outfielder, Jaff Decker.
TinCaps outfielder Daniel Robertson says having the best record in the league is “amazing, worthwhile.”
The TinCaps started off the playoff season with a win over the South Bend Silver Hawks last night. Now theyre back in the Summit City tonight to show fans why theyre the best in the league.
In talking with the guys I asked what the equation for a winning baseball team is.
According to the TinCaps, the ingredients aren’t rocket science.
They credit part of their success to the lack of stress in the atmosphere.
“Its the most relaxed clubhouse Ive ever been in” says Robertson.
The second component of their success comes from the stands: the fans.
Robertson says: “I think they help us out alot more than they think they do.”
Manager Doug Dascenzo says they “feed off of them and they feed off us and it works real well together.”
And as simple as it sounds, the guys admit that winning comes easy if they’re having fun.
“They truly have fun they know when to have fun they know when to get to work” says Dascenzo.
