The H1N1 flu vaccine is expected sometime in October. Some people will have an easy time getting it. But many will probably have to wait.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has outlined priority groups to get the vaccine. That's because it could be available in only limited amounts at first. The list of qualifying people includes:
-Pregnant women
-Caregivers for children under six months
-Health care and emergency teams
-All children ages six months to four
-Children ages five to eighteen with chronic medical conditions
If the supply is higher, people up to age 24 and people 25 to 64 with health problems would be on the target list to receive the vaccine.
But the elderly are at the end of the line. John Silcox, spokesman for the Allen County Health Department, says science has shown younger people are actually more at risk for the H1N1 flu. People over 65 are not a top priority for the vaccine, Silcox said.
Silcox says county health departments will distribute the vaccine under the state's direction.
