Indiana will get about one-million doses of the H1N1 vaccine and each county will distribute it differently. In Allen County, doctors dealing with high-risk groups will be primarily responsible for distributing the vaccines once they arrive in October. Federal guidelines require high-risk groups to receive vaccinations first. High-risk groups include pregnant women, anyone from six-months-old to 24-years-old and health care workers. Allen County will be distributing its share of the vaccines mostly through pediatricians and obstetricians since they deal directly with high-risk groups. The Allen County Health Department will also be holding free clinics to obtain the vaccinations for those without access to a doctor. The federal government has already purchased the vaccinations so they are free for everyone. However doctors may charge administrative fees to give a vaccine. To get a vaccine contact your doctor. The Health Department asks residents not call their doctors until October, when the vaccine has arrived.
