The Fort Wayne Komets are not resting this off season and are anxiously awaiting the start of hockey season.
Today, I talked with Komets' president Michael Franke and team captain Colin Chaluk and they let me know that this season is going to be especially exciting.
It may be July but the Fort Wayne Komets' season is right around the corner and the 2011-2012 season is going to be a special one for the organization.
Michael Frank let me know that, "This will be our 60th anniversary season of Fort Wayne Komets hockey. Pretty much the whole season will be a celebration of those 60 years of hockey. This is a pretty big deal for us."
The Komets are also pleased with their off season signings. "Just signed Frank DeAngelis he's our number one defenseman this past season. We also brought in Jamie Milam who is the top defenseman of the Championship team last season in the CHL," said Franke. Chaluk also agrees, "In addition of Jamie Milam and bringing Frankie DeAngleis back, our powerplay is pretty prolific. We are definitely making the necessary changes this season."
The Komets players are also working hard in the off season. "It's a functional workout, we train like 4 to 5 times a week," says Chaluk.
The players are only on the ice once a week for now, but beginning in September they will up the icetime to 4 to 5 times as week along with the workouts to prepare for their home opener October 22nd.
