Financing has been secured for downtown Fort Wayne's, "The Harrison" apartments. Project officials admitted it's been a bumpy ride, but say the building will be finished February 2013.
Cranes are up and the foundation is poured. Actual construction of The Harrison began 45 days ago, but Tuesday those involved in the development celebrated with an official ground breaking.
The Harrison has been six years in the making. After a change in ownership, and difficulty securing financing, construction is underway. Fort Wayne, Mayor Tom Henry says "It's a tremendous weight off the shoulders of not only myself but all of us who've been working on this for literally years."
The building will include 44 apartments, a Pub, bank branch, and Law office. Negotiations are underway to secure a restaurant, gym and dry cleaner.
Over the past few months members of The New Harrison LLC, who own the building have been tight lipped about construction progress. Building owners says they hope citizens can now view the project as a good thing for downtown development.  Mark Hagerman, the CEO of Hagerman Group, says "I just hope the community is now accepting of this and it's going to be more of a positive opportunity to move forward rather than taking some of the pessimistic views that this community is sometimes known for."
Construction is expected to be done February 2013. B&D Commercial is the company in charge leasing. They can be contacted at 260. 407.0900. Rent ranges from $900 to $1,600 a month.
