Fort Wayne river levels are finally beginning to rise after being several feet below the summer average.

Levels dropped due to the lingering drought and fell further thanks to a levee project, leaving local aquatic life in danger.

WFFT first showed you the deadly problem taken over the rivers; hundreds of dead mollusks scattered along the banks.

The first phase of the levee project, along Edgewater Avenue, wasn't supposed to be finished until the middle of August, but crews are already done. It's good news to aquatic life and residents living along the river.

The rising of river levels is also perfect timing for an upcoming city event. This Saturday, the William Wells Celebration will be held along the river and will include canoe races and boat rides.
