"She saw her crossing the street and the car just hit her hard and that's all she said she saw," said Beth Mccomas.

Beth Mccomas's 12 year-old daughter was at the bus stop at Broadway and Scott for no more than five minutes before she saw her fellow Fort Wayne Community School classmate struck by a car as she was crossing the street.

"She said that she was just laying there on the ground and some guy hit her and she was just lying there and she was scared," said Mccomas.

Police say witnesses describe the driver as a white man driving  a tan car similar in size to a '98 Oldsmobile with a large dent and possibly a broken window on the drivers side.

Mccomas says when she saw the emergency vehicles stop in front of her daughters bus-stop she thought the worst.

"It scared me to death because of the fact it could be anyone's kid and it could have been mine," said Mccomas.

The driver was traveling southbound when he hit the girl without his headlights on--but as he fled the scene he quickly turned them on according to witnesses.

The accident is still under investigation but if you have any information you are urged to call the Fort Wayne police department.
