The driver of a box truck was killed on US 30 in Whitley County this morning after he slammed into the back of a semi that was stopped at a traffic light.
The crash happened just after nine this morning.
Marc Gatton, he Chief Deputy of the Whitley County Sheriff's Department says the driver of the semi truck was stopped at a red light when a box truck rear ended the semi.
The box truck driver was pronounced dead after the medical staff worked on him and tried to revive him. Samaritan came in but he was never flown out," said Gatton.
Westbound traffic was reduced to one lane for several hours as crews cleaned the wreckage and investigated the scene--police say they have no reason to believe alcohol or drugs were involved.
"He just didn't see the tractor trailer stopped at the red light, and the light changed. We will wait for the corner's department to get a hold of us to see if there were any medical issues."
The driver of the semi truck that was rear ended was taken to the hospital with chest and neck pains.
