Representatives from Takaoka, Japan and Gera, Germany gathered at the Fort Wayne International Airport to unveil a new sculpture commemorating Fort Wayne's sister city program.
Over the past 35 years, Fort Wayne has partnered up with four cities -- Takaoka, Japan, Gera, Germany, Plock, Poland and Taizhou, China.
Officials say the partnerships give the citizens of Fort Wayne and their sister cities an opportunity to cultivate cultural as well as business relationships. The delegation that visited this week spent time touring Fort Wayne's landmarks as well as meeting with business and government leaders.
A new sculpture was unveiled on Sunday at the airport symbolizing that relationship. Designed by local artist George Morrison, the sculpture represents four airline contrails leading to each sister city -- a fabric piece representing Fort Wayne weaves through the contrails.
