The American Red Cross has been at the center of disaster relief for this and other emergency situations throughout the years but for Fort Wayne volunteer Gary Copeland, it's his first time going on a mission in the midst of devastation. He says so far, it's been a rewarding experience.
Fort Wayne's volunteers helped set up a shelter in Kingston New York. The shelter was created to accommodate 50 people.
Only half a dozen people needed the shelter, so Copeland and the other volunteer are headed to another city, Saugerties, New York, where they can be of more service. The Red Cross is urging all citizens to be of service by donating blood. The Red Cross says you can also help by donating money.
