Just before nine o'clock Sunday evening, police say the tanker was en route to a small brush fire on the 4300 block of Butler Road.
When the truck attempted to make a right turn onto Butler from Hillegas Road, the tanker flipped onto its side, and rolled several times -- likely caused by water shifting inside the truck, police say.
The truck also struck three utility poles during the crash, which knocked out electricity and cable service for a period in the neighborhoods surrounding the intersection of Butler and Hillegas Roads.
The Washington Township firefighter was pronounced dead at the scene.
