Homicide Rate Prompts "Increase The Peace" Initiative

Allen County coroner has identified its 29th homicide victim.   19-year-old Ramareo Debrad Booher, he was found dead in an alley last night in the 3100 block of Reed Street.

 

WFFT's Sherrell Hubbard talked to a local pastor who says he's taking a stand.  He wants the violence to stop.

There are more homicides this year than last year and many of the victims are young adults, killed by gun violence.  The man I talked to has started an "increase the peace" initiative that seeks to reach these young people before it's too late.

 

Carlton Lynch is the pastor of New Beginnings Church.  He says they want to bring awareness to gun violence and create an agenda to stop it.  He says "I think one of the great problems as it relates to our city is that kids, young people are dying everyday and no one is saying anything."  His strategy is to rally people at the street-level, attacking the problem at the root.
