Law enforcement call it a major victory.

"This guy (Daniel Martin) was one of our top priorities" Assistant Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Andrew Deserto tells WFFT today.

After nearly two months of intense searching, law enforcement finally have their hands on one of northern Ohio's most wanted fugitives.

"We got a breakthrough during the holidays. That put some information into our hands that looked like he was in the Fort Wayne area" says Deserto.

Today, U.S. Marshals found 40-year-old Daniel Martin at a Fort Wayne home in the 5100 block of Bowser Avenue. Martin is accused of killing his girlfriend, 26-year-old Melinda Shinn, back in November in Rockford Ohio.

"We always go by the saying that desperate people commit desperate acts especially when they're backed into a corner and this man fits that profile" says Deserto.

During today's arrest, law enforcement also found an assault rifle, but aren't sure yet who it belongs to. Deserto says he isn't sure yet why Martin was in Fort Wayne. He's believed, however, to have family in the area.

"We wanted to not only capture this guy that's a danger to communities but we wanted to bring some peace to that area and that town" says Deserto.

This is the fourth homicide in Mercer County in 12 years.

"Homicides do not occur very often in this town that this happened. This is a very big shock to that area" says Deserto.

U. S Marshals in northern Ohio say Martin was one their most wanted, making it on their "Dangerous Dozen" list.

"We're happy to now be taking him off that list" says Deserto.
