Pizza Delivery Gone Wrong

A Fort Wayne pizza delivery driver was held-up at gun-point.

When Alicia Elston got the pizza delivery call on Christmas Eve she had a bad feeling about it, which is why she asked a co-worker to join her on  the route. Looking back on what happened that evening Elston says she should have listened to her gut. 

"I really didn't know what to do.  All I saw was the barrel of the shotgun," said Elston. 

Alicia Elston has delivered pizzas for over 20 years, it's what she loves, but a delivery gone wrong has left her scarred.

"It screwed me up for a couple of days I couldn't sleep. Every order I took after that it was a little scary to walk up to a door," said Elston. 

Elston and a co-worker delivered a pizza to unit 7A in the Eden Green apartment complex when the person who placed the order began fighting with Elston over the price.  The man then pulled out a shot-gun and demanded money and the food. 

"They got away with two large pizzas, 25 piece hot wings, bread sticks our pizza bag and about five dollars worth of coins," said Elston. 

Foot prints led police to the gunman and his accomplice inside an  apartment at Eden Green. 

Rhodney Lewis, 18, and Junius Brooks,19,  have both been charged with armed robbery. The arrests have eased Elston's anxiety. 

"I was relieved actually it's like they got what they deserved.  Chump change!  It was nothing to go to jail over," said Elston. 

Mark Brooks, a sergeant with the Fort Wayne Police Department says delivery robberies are more common than some might think. 

"We've had several cases over the last few years involving delivery drivers who were robbed," said Brooks. 

Elston considers herself lucky to be back at work saying the outcome could have been much different. 

"That totally could have went wrong.  Anybody could have come in and startled him.  He could have pulled the trigger.  I don't want to leave my kids homeless.  I don't want to leave them without their mom," said Elston.
