FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) - The intersection of Tillman Rd. and Calhoun St. was closed today due to flooding form the Saint Mary's River.
Melting snow and rainfall in Decatur are to blame for the rising water. The Calhoun and Tillman intersection is one of the lowest parts along the Saint Mary's river in Fort Wayne.
Businesses in the area including the Legion restaurant didn't bother opening today. The owner of Chad auto sales next door says the flood kept customers away from his business.
Residents had to find alternate routes to get around the road closure. Frank Suarez with the Fort Wayne Public Works Division cautions driver who encounter flooded roads.
Suarez says, "Don't take a chance and go through it. It's always wise to call it in to 3-1-1 and change routes and go a different direction rather than trying to drive through the high water."
Officials say the water is down one foot already in the intersection from this morning.
