The superintendent of one Williams County, Ohio school district says he wants his staff to carry guns.

Monday night, members of the Edgerton, OH school board considered the plan, which would allow teachers to take a course allowing them to bring a gun to school.

The school's superintendent says he was motivated by the recent elementary school shooting in Connecticut. Officials say if the measure is passed, teacher would go through extensive training.

"We aren't just going to be passing out shotguns to teachers walking through the door," says Matthew Krill, Edgerton Schools' current resource officer. "The idea is to give [the teachers] advanced-level traning."

Krill says the courses would train teachers to the same standards as any Ohio police officer.

The district's superintendent says the plan will likely come up for a final vote on the school board sometime next month. If it passes, teachers may begin carrying guns by the end of the current school year.
