High Waters Trap Cable-TV Driver

The van became stuck in several feet of water and the driver was trapped.
"It's deeper than it looks in a lot of cases," said Decatur Fire Chief Les Marckel.

Marckel says there were plenty of signs and placards warning people about the high waters, yet motorists are still disregarding them.
"Most of the roads by now have been marked with high water or road closed signs and people need to pay attention to that," said Marckel.
The driver zipped past several warning signs.
"People that have been in this week that we've taken out have disregarded a high water sign or road closed sign," said Marckel.
Driving through areas of high water is not only dangerous for the driver but the rescue crews as well.
"It puts our guys at a lot of risk when the risk could have been avoided by simply not driving through the water," said Marckel.
Marckel asks that motorists simply find another route when waters are high to avoid injuries to yourself or others. The driver of the van was safely rescued and no injuries were reported.
