In the wake of three Fort Wayne shootings this weekend, some Fort Wayne groups have had enough- and are now calling for a gun amnesty.
An extension of the Fort Wayne Police Department is teaming up with the Fort Wayne Urban League to create a gun turn-in they're calling 'Amnesty Day.'
Some say it will help prevent violence, but others aren't so sure.
"I don't care what anybody's talking about- guns don't kill, people kill. But if they don't have those guns, they can't kill," says Denise Trigg.
Trigg's son Demarcus Adams died Thursday in a southeast Fort Wayne shooting.
Two other shootings this weekend- one that killed Mark Young on Friday, Allen County's ninth homicide of the year.
Another early Saturday, leaving Jordan Williams in critical condition.
Detective Timothy Russell says he wants to get some guns off the streets through a 'Gun Amnesty Day.'
"But there's a lot of people out there that have guns they may have collected from dead relatives, may have inherited, or may have found, that we know are out there, but they may not know what to do with them. They may have the fear of saying, 'I don't want them to come out to my house, because they next thing I know, they're investigating me, saying I did something. This is not the story. Just want you to drop it off, let us take care of it," Russell says.
But some are skeptical, like shooting range and store owner Shaun Beiswanger.
"I know a lot of states have tried to do it before in the past, and if you're going to trade in something that is worth value, why not bring it in to a gun shop that's going to give you money for it," Beiswanger says.
Fort Wayne residents say someone needs to do something to stop violence.
"Well, I think it'll be a good idea, but I don't know if it's going to have an impact or not. 'Why not?' It's been going on for a long time anyways, so it might do something it might not," says James Singleton.
"I think the community and the churches should get involved anymore, but they don't, you know, and save people. Kids are just rampaging, it's just senseless killings," says a man who did not want to give his name.
Gun amnesty day is April 20th, and it'll be at the Fort Wayne Urban League on Hanna Street.
