Fort Wayne's mayor has announced the city will look for a new power operator.

Mayor Tom Henry says the city's electric utility has been leased to Indiana Michigan Power for the past 35 years.  But that lease is coming to an end.

Henry says Fort Wayne and I&M have not been able to reach a new agreement, and that the city will open a competitive bidding process to find a new operator.  The director of city utilities says the initial stages of the bidding process to will begin in three to six weeks.

The current lease agreement serves 33,000 customers.  To see a map of that area, click on the attachment just above this story.

A 2008 survey shows Indiana Michigan Power’s rankings compared to other companies in the state.  To access that survey, click here: http://www.in.gov/iurc/files/2008_Residential_Bill_Survey_Presentation.pdf.
