Swine Flu in Allen County

By: FOX Fort Wayne News
Updated: June 2, 2009
The first case of H-1 N-1 virus has been confirmed in Allen County. The patient reported Flu like symptoms to a doctor’s office Monday. Local health officials say they expect to see more cases. Dr. Deborah McMahan says "I think it would be very unlikely not to see more, just by nature, respiratory diseases like influenza are very contagious and spread easily among persons. I would be surprise if we only have one case in Allen County." A total of 155 cases of swine flue have been confirmed in Allen County. There have been no deaths linked to the illness in the Hoosier state. The best way to protect yourself is to wash your hands often, and use hand sanitizer. Health officials encourage you to stay home if you feel sick.
