Allen County Health officials say people need to help control the mosquito population as the weather heats up.  Besides using bug spray, they say, you can do this in several ways.  To learn how, tune in to FOX Fort Wayne First at Ten or click on the video following the newscast.

Health officials say mosquitoes can carry harmful or potentially life-threatening diseases including West Nile virus and LaCrosse Encephalitis.

Also, the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health is offering “mosquito fish” free of charge to the public.  Health officials say the fish eat mosquito larva found in ponds and other sources of standing water.  They say you can pick up the fish at 2242 Carroll Road in Fort Wayne during the week between 8:30 a.m. and noon, as well as between 1:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.  They suggest bringing a bucket of pond water as supplies of plastic bags are limited.

For more information, call the Department of Health at 260-449-7459.  You can also visit their Web site at www.fw-ac-deptofhealth.com.
