Eighty ball players hoped to make the cut Tuesday at Parkview Field. Many of them have hopes of making the big times. Others used Tuesday’s camp as a networking event to get exposure to a major league scout. Baseball players between ages 15 and 22 gather to show their stuff. The players are asked to tryout for their best position. They are evaluated on their skills, but they dont get any feedback. Jeff Stewart, a Scout for the San Diego Padres say “No feedback, other than if I ask them to stay and run then they know that Im at least interested enough to follow them.” “Follow them” means the scout will watch them throughout college to see how they improve. Many of the players said they showed up to get exposure. Stewart says hes held the camp seven times and they have yet to sign someone directly to the major leagues.
