Fort Wayne Police say a body was found in a green Ford minivan on the city’s southeast side.

Police responded to a 911 call at 6:53 p.m. on Wednesday.  They say a female neighbor went by the van and noticed a horrible smell. She looked inside and discovered what she believed was a dead person. Police confirmed there was a dead body in the van. They say the body is an adult and is believed to be a male, but they can't confirm gender because of decomposition.

Police say they don't know how long the van has been there. Officer Scott Tegtmeyer says witness accounts range from two days to two weeks.

Tegtmeyer says police have a few leads on who the person might be. They expect more information after an autopsy.

Initially, the 911 caller thought this was a shooting. But police say at this point, it doesn’t look like that.

No arrests have been made.
