breaking news
Fort Wayne celebrates its third All America City award tonight at the TinCaps game at Parkview Field.
"Only about 2 dozen other cities have ever reached 3 times" says Mayor Tom Henry.
And it's appropriate that as the city hits another milestone, so do the TinCaps with another record in ticket sales.
"After tonight's game, we'll be well into the 300-thousands and we still have eleven games to go, plus playoffs" says Mike Limmer with TinCaps Marketing.
Last year, the average per game was 3600 people. This year, the average per game is 5200 people.
"Over 40-percent of those coming downtown are out of Allen County" adds Mayor Henry.<
Max and Pam Ineichen drove about an hour to get to tonight's game, but were faced with the words 'sold out' staring back at them when they got to the ticket window.
"We didn't realize it was going to be as big of a crowd as they're expecting" says Max Ineichen.
So why the sell out? It might have to do with something you've probably heard before: stay-cationing.
And tonight's events aren't the only monumental occasions to hit Parkview Field this week. Christian recording artists MercyMe will perform at the ballpark tomorrow night. This is the first ever concert to be held at Parkview Field. The show starts at 7:30PM and tickets are still available. To purchase tickets, go to TrinityCommunications.org or call the TinCaps Administrative Office at (260) 482-6400.
